As I've mentioned before, mini Valentines are some of my favorite products to create. These adorable minis come in packs of 8 so you have plenty to go around. I prefer to give them along with a little candy or chocolate.
But just who is deserving of a mini Valentine?! Here's some ideas of who to give out mini Valentines to:
- Classmates
- All of your grandkids
- Secret (or not so secret) crushes
- Your office co-workers or your employees if you're the boss
- Your students (as a former teacher, I loved giving out Valentines to my students)
- The important people in your life in need of a little love: the postman, the FedEx delivery guy, your hair stylist, your dry cleaner
- Your group of girlfriends
- Your exercise buddies, bridge group, or sewing club
- Your parents, in-laws, brothers, and sisters
- Your neighbors
Just a few weeks until Valentine's Day! While I believe that a special love note is appropriate any day of the year, I can always get behind a holiday that encourages people to send cards to those they love and appreciate. In addition to the Rainbow Dot Heart card released earlier this summer in celebration of the Supreme Court's decision on marriage equality, I'm also excited to share two new love cards I've just added to the collection! I really enjoyed my time hand painting new designs this summer and love the end results. You can shop all of the new cards here.
I am in the midst of designing new cards that will be released later this summer. One card in particular could not wait, though! I'm excited to share the brand new hand-painted Rainbow Dot Heart card that I released early following the Supreme Court's historic marriage legalizing gay marriage. Find it in the shop here.
I'm excited to share a sneak preview of our new releases for Spring 2013. There are cards for Easter, graduation, Mother's Day, and Father's Day, as well as new love, birthday, and thank you cards. I'm so excited for the launch of this collection and worked really hard to come up with unique, whimsical, bold designs that jump off the paper.

I've decided to highlight a different card from the Happy Cactus collection every Monday. Each card has a little story behind it and I hope to share the inspiration behind the different designs. Up first, one of my favorites: the "Corazon" heart print card.
The design for this card was inspired by little Mexican tin hearts. I have picked up a few tin hearts over the years from Tesoros in Austin and during a trip to Santa Fe and love the look of these little decorative ornaments.

After coming up with an initial design, I ended up using a light pink and punchier magenta for the heart and a turquoise blue for the teardrops that appear to bounce off of the heart. For the background, I felt that a very light blue helped the colors of the heart really pop off of the paper.
The card has quickly become a bestseller since it was released in May. I had one customer tell me how she likes the design's versatility. It can be used for so many different occasions - as a love note, a congrats card for a new couple, an anniversary card, or just because! The Corazon card is available as a single card or boxed set of 10 notes here.
