Halloween is two short weeks away and I've got the holiday on my mind. I've been seeing different types of pumpkins, gourds, and squash everywhere. I love seeing all of the different textures, shapes, and colors they all come in...so many options beyond the generic orange pumpkin!

I was going through archives of scanned drawings and came across these different flower drawings that I did many months ago. I never ended up doing anything with them! So this week I took these drawings and used them to play around with different color combos. I'm always searching for unique combinations, some more out of the ordinary than others. I keep a Pinterest board of different color combos that I can refer to in times like these.

Fall is finally in the air here in Austin! I'm excited for the crisper weather and the changing leaves. Here's a little doodle to celebrate.

Fall is officially here! Fall in Austin is a little different from the falls I experienced on the East Coast...highs in the low 90's still?! But I'm eager for the weather to cool down, the leaves to turn, and the sweaters to come out of storage. This week I worked on a pattern using different colored leaves and acorns to celebrate.

Happy Cactus Designs is celebrating its one year anniversary this month, so what better doodle to celebrate than a fun birthday cake! I fell in love with a cake I saw on Pinterest and used it as inspiration for this little celebratory doodle!

A few weeks back, I featured a cactus on the Wednesday doodle. I'm back this week with even more - a trio of cacti!
Our own Happy Cactus has been thriving this summer. What once was a tiny little cactus has turned into a huge Happy Cactus that can't stop growing. It loves the Texas sun! To read the store behind the Happy Cactus, click here.

Update: This doodle was used on one of our most popular greeting cards, Thinking of You Lavender. Find it in the shop here.
Happy Wednesday! This week, I worked on drawing of a bunch of lavender. I love the crisp and clean smell of lavender.
It reminds me of a trip I took to the south of France a number of years ago and the lavender growing all over Provence. I came across a few pics that helped jog my memory of this beautiful place!

Summer is nearly over and school will be back in session soon. I drew a little yellow pencil earlier this summer and decided to make a fun little pattern out of it.

I had a fun time creating this doodle of little flowers and playing around with some bold color combinations (lemon yellow + purple, brick red + sky blue, magenta + kelly green). When drawing, sometimes I have very particular color combinations in mind and sometimes I have no clue and just see what pops!

Last week I was lucky to have a lot of time to focus on some creative work (they say with creative businesses, you typically spend only 20% of your time on the creative side and the other 80% on running the business, and it's so true!). I ended up with a lot of drawings I'm excited about as well as an idea for a new collection/series (more on that soon!). One thing I found was that I ended up drawing a lot of tiles and geometric shapes. I've been playing around with these tiles...making different patterns and trying out different color combinations. Here's one of my favorites!
